Algonoquin Wilderness Eco-lodge, Ontario -
Describes itself as wilderness comfort for those wishing to savour the wild, without roughing it. The natural opportunities around the lodge are vast, with a gargantuan trail system for hiking, skiing, horse-riding, mountain biking and other activities, taking centre stage. The owners work together with Parks Canada to protect the local environment and have recently completed their own hydro-electric power system.
Bathurst Inlet Lodge, Nanavut-
A true wilderness lodge in the remote tundra of the Innuit territory, 360 miles north east of Yellowknife. The main lodge is located in the old 1936 post store of the Hudson Bay Trading Company. Visiting Bashurst Inlet is like stepping back in time to the days of remote trading communities working alongside the indigenous communities -today the Innuit people are partners in this venture.
Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, British Colombia -
A luxury campsite featuring tents inspired by 19th century pioneers. The resort is situated in some of the only remaining temperate rainforest and offers guests the opportunity to experience the wild from a luxurious base. The lodge also works together with the parks service to maintain the conservation area and through a series of measures, including gravity turbines, recycling, composting and organic farming, helps to keep the camp "low-impact."
Cree Village Ecolodge, Moose Factory, Ontario -
The first Indigenous owned Ecolodge in the northern hemisphere, the lodge is set in a modern building designed and run by the MoCreebec people in accordance with traditional value. It offers twenty guest rooms constructed with natural materials. Toilets are of the composting type and furnishings and cleaning materials are organically sourced. The 66-seat pine and cedar restaurant is modeled on a traditional Cree dwelling, the landmark Shabatwon or "long teepee with doors at each end". Across the river from the lodge is Tidewater Provincial Park, where there are hiking trails and camp sites, or it is a short boat ride to James Bay where beluga whales and seals can be seen at certain times of the year. There is abundant wildlife including moose and caribou, pike and trout, geese, eagles and many other species of migratory birds. Activities include winter camping, cross-country skiing, star gazing, bird watching, whale watching, nature tours, river tours, kayaking and canoeing.
E'terra Ecolodge, Ontario -
Stunning eco 'chic' hideaway next to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. The aim was to create luxurious accommodation that coexists in perfect harmony with the pristine environment of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. Incorporating a whole range of environmental features, the building offers six luxury suites furnished to an exceptional standard with their own decks surrounded by lush forest. The centre offers a huge range of activities from kayak to skiing according to season. There is so much more we could write about this lodge, but why not have a look for yourself.
King Pacific Lodge, British Colombia
Absolutely stunning, this floating eco-lodge/luxury hotel can be found on Princess Royal Island and has magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Provides guests with the opportunity to relax in luxury or to take part in a range of activities such as whale watching, fishing, hiking and kayaking. The lodge works together with Parks Canada and scientists to minimise its impact on the surrounding area and also promotes sustainable eco-tourism.

Kw'o:kw'e:hala Eco Retreat, Othello, British Columbia - 
Wilderness retreat in the mountains of the Pacific North-West, one and a half hours from Vancouver with accommodation in log cabins or 'soft-sided nests'  Meals are provided from their own organic garden. Breathtaking scenery on seven forested acres alongside crystal emerald waters of the Coquihalla River.
Little Slocan Lodge, Little Slocan, Bristish Colombia -
Small but extremely welcoming and homely lodge on the edge of the Valhalla National Park. The lodge offers some fantastic fishing in addition to a range of the usual activities, including hiking, kayaking, skiing and horseriding, as well as the opportunity to relax in the local hot springs. The lodge was constructed using sustainable materials and is powered by hydro-electricity.
Nipika Mountain Lodge, Kootenay -
Incredibly simple yet charming resort in the Canadian Rockies. This lodge has a variety of activities on offer including skiing, trekking, fishing and other mainly wildlife based experiences. The lodge is also extremely eco-friendly, with measures including sustainable materials, solar & hydro-electric power sources and no cars being allowed, helping to reduce its impact on the environment.
Pineal Lake Eco Lodge, Ontario -
A collection of comfortable timber cabins on Lake Pineal. Perfect for getting away from it all into the wilderness of Northern Ontario and to experience the variety of wildlife the inhabits the local area. The cabins were constructed using entirely sustainable materials, uses low energy appliances and is powered by hydroelectricity.
Rocky Mountain Escape, Alberta -
Three handcrafted log cabins in the Canadian Rockies at an elevation of 5,000 ft. surrounded by the Hoff range, Moosehorn Mountains the Willmore mountains. The cabins are tucked amongst the trees and the cookhouse is in a clearing left by an abandoned sawmill site. Hearty, wholesome meals, served family-style in a central cookhouse. The owners are strongly commited to conserving the subalpine ecosystem.
Strathcona Park Lodge, Vancouver Island, British Colombia -
With a beautiful location, on the shores of Nootka Sound, this lodge offers guests the opportunity to experience Canada's outdoors from a rustic, but comfortable base. Many activities are available in the area, notably sea kayaking, skiing and hiking through the scenic landscape. The lodge works together with Parks Canada to maintain a low impact environmental policy which includes hydro-electric power, recycling and sustainable building.

A very nice wood cabin style lodge that provides great access to Wabakimi provincial park, allowing guests the opportunity to consort with nature, from a comfortable base. Offers epic kayaking trips and attempts to maintain sustainability through building design, natural insulation and the use of sustainable materials, amongst other measures.

Ahwahnee Eco Lodge, Yosemite, California -
One of the oldest lodges in the United states, this lodge was opened in 1927. It is one of the most distinctive luxury hotels in the US and offers fantastic opportunities to experience Yosemite National Park from a comfortable base. Works together with the Parks service to protect the national park, uses a green procurement system, recycling and water conservation.

Arcosanti, Arizona - Stay in Paolo Soleri's futuristic community in the Arizona desert. The town has been built and enlarged by the help of volunteers over a thirty year period, and acts as a laboratory for alternative lifestyles -a fusion of architecture and ecology. You can stay overnight or experience arcosanti in one of their one or two week packages. Accommodation is limited so early booking is advisable.

Big Meadows Lodge, Virginia -
Comfortable lodging in the centre of Shendoah national park. Offering a range of hiking and natural experiences within the national park, all from an easily accessible location. The lodge has recently started to work hard on its eco-credentials, including recycling, promotion of green principles, organic purchasing and energy and water conservation, amongst other methods.

The lodge itself has all the amenities you would imagine from a high end hotel, but in a beautiful rural location. Advertises itself as a once in a lifetime, off the grid adventure. The accommodation is either in comfortable yurts, or reconditioned VW camper vans! Offers a range of eco friendly activities and is also close enough to the rest of big islands amenities for everyone to enjoy. Seriously committed to protecting the environment, the lodge is 100% solar powered, composting, recycling, rainwater harvesting, recycled furniture, low water showers and much more!

Maple Hill Farm Inn, Maine -
Maple Hill Farm's commitment to minimising their environmental impact and educating their guests earned them Maine's first "Environmental Leader" green lodging establishment certification. Offers a range of activities for both business and leisure travelers, including fishing, hiking and conference facilities. Most of the inn is powered by a huge solar array and a wind turbine, while the inn also uses recycling, composting and ethical purchasing to maintain its environmental stance.

Pollywogg Hollër, Belmont, New York State -

Named for the serenade of frogs that can be heard in the evening, this eco-resort / bed and breakfast offers rustic adirondack timber lodges and a Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome with eight foot diameter hanging bed in a forest setting. The solar-powered complex is complete with wood fired sauna, gravity-fed spring water, lantern light, and wood-burning stoves. They offer wine tasting, wooded trails and the work of more than a hundred artists in enchanting scuplture gardens.

Ridgewood Wilderness Lodge, Halibut cove, Alaska -
A rustic, but extremely welcoming and award wining timber framed lodge on the Kenai Peninsula. Offers a vast range of activities including whale watching, bear viewing, fishing, kayaking, trekking and many others. The owners are big on ecological principles and have environmental policies that extend to both the lodge and the adjoining oyster farm. These include measures such as water reharvesting, low energy appliances, recycling and organic farming.

Rocky Mountain Lodge & Cabins, Nr. Colorado Springs, Colorado -
rustic, elegant log lodge nestled on 2 twelve treed acres in the Rocky Mountains, ten miles west of Colorado Springs. The lodge is a Bed and Breakfast Inn and has five bedrooms with private baths & cable TV/VCR's, some having sitting areas and private balconies.

Bunkhouse/lodge in the Texas Hill area, which is constructed from of strawbales. The owner is also incredibly friendly and offers to organise a wide variety of excursions to explore Texas, for example wine tours, flower experiences and canyoning to name a few. He also promote eco-tourism in the region, composting, recycling and contributes to local environmental organisation efforts.


Wildspring Guest Habitat, Oregon -
Really good website for this beautiful eco-friendly resort, which is situated in tall pine woodland with views over the Southern Oregon coast. The owners offer a combination of holistic activities such as native American drumming along with the usual hiking, mountain biking and kayaking. The lodge takes steps to conserve heat, conserve water, install eco-friendly lighting, build sustainably and recycle amongst other measures.
