The eco barns are super insulated to provide cosy accommodation with ground source heat pump underfloor heating and solar powered water heating.They invite their isitors to offset their travel directly by bringing a tree to plant at Merlin Farm.

Newt Cottage, Hunting Hall Farm, Northumberland -
A stone farm cottage on a small, traditional family farm. The cottage boasts and air source heat pump, solar panels, sheeps wool insulation and other green features. The farm has been developed with many conservation measures -it is a haven for wildlife and they breed rare pigs, and young environmentals can explore the farm trail through the Denes Wetlands and arable fields bordered with hawthorn hedges.

Modern three storey house situated by Camber's sand dunes. The house features solar tubes for heating water, geo thermal space heating and a green roof system.
Top Cottage, Cornwall
Top Cottage is ideally placed for taking advantage of the spectacular walking, surfing and scenery of the Penwith peninsular at Sennen Cove near Land's End. Minutes from both the beach and the coast path, the newly built cottage is tucked into the hillside and boasts a green wildflower roof and solar panels. Positioned above the harbour, it catches the sun whilst being sheltered from the Atlantic winds, but has a panoramic view of the beach. In the winter, there is a log burner to keep the chill at bay and the well insulated walls and roof keep it nice and cosy. A perfect retreat at any time of year for up to four people. Top Cottage is just nine miles from Penzance railway station where bikes and cars are available for hire. A regular year round bus service runs to Sennen Cove.
Tor Farm, Somerset
Two self catering lodges in a Somerset Orchard. Enjoining fantastic views, the lodges are clad in English cedar insulated with pure lambs wool with environmentally friendly green roofs, one with a living sedum roof and the other with slates made from recyled car tyres. A reed bed has been dug and planted to purify the water from the septic tank. Each has its own private hot tub and breakfast is available from the farmhouse.


Cove Park, West Scotland -
Centre for the arts and creative industries 50-acre site overlooking Loch Long on the Rosneath peninsula, founded in 1999 by Eileen and Peter Jacobs. You can hire the green oak, turf roofed pods or the cubes with balconies overhanging a pond.
Craig Farm Holiday Cottage - Southwest Scotland -

Self catering eco-friendly holiday properties in a dramatic situation on the north-west coast of Mull, one hour from Tobermory. The owners run an organic farm -the website gives a wonderful description of an idyllic lifestyle. They work very hard to minimise their carbon footprint and have a Gold award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme -the cottages are highly insulated and energy is provided through solar hot water, wind turbine and heating for four of the cottages from a locally supplied woodchip boiler district heating system. Most of all, this is a wonderful place to walk and explore.

Traditional stone cottages in North Wales with eco friendly features, set on an organic farm on the Lleyn Peninsular. Water supplied from a natural spring, organic welsh wool carpets. Their aim is to provide five star accommodation without compromising the environment.

Profits go to rescuing historic buildings at risk. In 2007 they were awarded the 2007 Guardian/Observer Ethical Travel award. The company aims to rent its accommodation every night of the year and promotes responsibility for the environment and the local communities.
Waunifor, Wales -
Set in five acres of landscaped grounds, they have six self catering stone cottages as well as events spaces and meeting rooms. Features include a working pottery in the craft studio and medicinal herb garden.
Ynys Pandy, North Wales -
