Sympathetic eco-renovation of an old shop offering accommodation for up to thirteen people by builder Douglas Beal. A wood-burner with a back boiler connected via an accumulator tank heats the re-claimed radiators and also provides a secondary heat source to the solar water heating system. In the garden, a permaculture inspired vegetable and herb garden has a covered area for sitting and there is a barbecue area.

Set within an ancient five acre site this eco retreat offers both the ancient Stone Cottage and The Groundhouse, a stunning ecological home designed by eco-consultant Daren Howarth, which was featured on Grand Designs and selected by Kevin McCloud as one of his top five all time favourites.  The Groundhouse is based on the owner's work with earthships and represents a highly advanced adaptation of this exemplary ecological concept to the temperate european climate. The three-bedroom passive solar earth sheltered house designed has a complete opening front face onto organic gardens, as well as the round room with its vaulted ceiling. The bathroom features a luxury stone bath and basin and state of the art swedish dry toilet, while the kitchen is hand crafted from salvaged wood worktops. Solar powered and secluded, the groundhouse is a very special space.

A pair of restored 18th century barns with heated pool. The owners are big on green issues and encourage recycling, local shopping, composting and local bike hire. Solar power is used to heat water in the house with geothermic heating and hot water.

Accommodation in the restored 1850 house and smaller studio gite fitted with solar panels, recycling systems, a wood stove, organic garden and a 'composting toilet' in a separate building overlooking the pond.

The eco chalet accommodates twelve people and was restored using environmentally friwendly techniques -the walls are super insulated, it has wood pellet heating and the natural source supplies the water for the hot tub, Owners Saskia and Duncan are happy to share their passion for the place, whilst raising environmental consciousness, and their blog tells the story of the commune that carried out the restoration.
