Avalon House, Dublin -
One of the main backpacker hostels in Central Dublin, close to all the bars, restaurants and nightlife, as well as free internet and wifi. The hostel is powered by wind turbines and has full recycling facilities.

Boghill Centre, Kilfenora, Co. Clare -
A rural centre for holistic activities, set in natural bogland in the North of County Clare. A very quiet and peaceful place to unwind, but with a raft of events taking place all the time, including environmental classes. 40 beds.

Clare's Rock Hostel, County Clare -
An eco friendly family friendly hostel in the rural village of Carron at the top of the Burren mountains. The hostel is part of a traditional Burren farm, and operates a number of environmental protection measures, including recycling, renewable energy and water conservation, and has a Certificate in Ecotourism from Sligo IT. They participate in the rural environmental protection scheme -this includes protection of watercourses, stone walls, monuments and wildlife habitats. Beds in private rooms or dormitory accommodation.

Errigal Youth Hostel, Dunlewey, Co. Donegal -
New and extremely modern hostel situated in the rugged hills of Donegal and overlooking Dunleywey lough. The hostel strives to find ways of reducing its impact on the environment through recycling, composting and the use of a wood chip boiler. 60 Beds.

Farm Hostel -
Stay on a working farm, in a modernised limestaone grain loft. The farm is located in the centre of Ireland, 60 miles from Dublin on the road to Limerick, and 22 miles from Kilkenny

Gyreum Eco-Lodge, Corlisheen, Co. Sligo -
Looking more like a space ship than a hostel, this eco-lodge has been constructed entirely from renewable resources including sheep's wool insulation and a "living roof." The lodge also features solar and wind power and is perfect for both individuals and large groups, with the coast and mountains both nearby allowing a large number of activities. 27 beds.

Killeany Lodge, Inis Mór, Aran Islands, Co. Galway -
A small lodge, situated in a quiet village on the Aran Islands and owned by a local non-profit organisation. They promote responsible tourism and use a range of eco-practices including organic growth, using energy responsibly and using traditional methods for renovation, amongst other methods. 20 Beds. Not open over Winter.

Sleepzone, Connemara -
The Sleepzone Group, with properties in Galway City, Connemara and The Burren, is carrying out a substantial environmental improvements in its Connemara hostel, which overlooks Killary fjord near the village of Leenane. Following an environmental audit by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI), the work includes installation of solar panels and biomass fuels.
