Danhostel Ribe (HI), Ribe -
Green key eco-certified rustic hostel located in Denmark's oldest town, close to the Viking centre, medieval architecture and the Wadden Sea national park. Features a raft of low impact features including energy management, organic food, low water use toilets and composting.

Sets out to be the alternative place to stay in Copenhagen, with minimum impact on the environment. Includes organic breakfast, use of enviromental friendly cleaning products, recycling, renewable energy and grey water for flushing the toilets
Askan Eramajat, Aska -
Wilderness lodging in a solid, wooden, red blockhouse in the heart of Finland. Member of ECEAT (European Center for Eco Agro Tourism). Activities include hiking in the wild forests, canoeing, fishing, swimming, cycling, sauna and smoke sauna bathing in a crystal clear lakeside, a few steps steps from the lodgings.
Mjølfjell Youth Hostel, Mjolfjell -

A beautifully situated hostel surrounded by epic mountain views. Great for skiing, hiking and fishing. The hostel is incredibley eco friendly - notably producing its own power from a hydro electric generator amongst other measures. 19 Beds.
Montana Youth Hostel, Bergen -

A small hostel overlooking picturesque Bergen on the Norwegian coast. The hostel is part of the Eco Lighthouse program, aimed at minimising environmental impacts.
Preikestolhytta:Pulpit Pock, Stavanger -
youth and family hostel set in beautiful cabin overlooking the Lyse Fjord in Starvanger. A new eco cabin is being built for opening in late 2008.
City Backpackers, Stockholm -

One of Stockholm's most popular and centrally located backpackers. All the usual features and a sauna. The hostel has an environmentally friendly policy including recycling, renewable energy and efficient whitewares.
Jumbo Hostel, Stockholm Arlanda -
This has to be the most environmentally friendly jumbo jet -it goes nowhere now! However it does form the basis of the most unusal hostel located at Arlanda Airport which is located in a worn out Boing 747 200 which offers 72 beds (three per room), broadband and flat screen tv -all just 15 minutes walk from the terminals.
Kolarbyn -
describes itself as Sweden's most primitive hotel -stay in a forest hut -you are provided with firewood, matches, sheepskin blanks and primitive cooking facilities. Bring warm clothing!
Tvetagarden , Södertälje -
Owners Kaj and Malin work to decrease the environmental load of the hostel as much as possible, with measures including electricity from wind power and a Bedrock Heat Pump, water saving taps, eco-labelled cleaning agents, recycling. They also run a hybrid car and lend out bicycles.
Hostelling International -
Any HI Hostels which fulfil certain environmental criteria are rated as Green Hostels and and are entitled to use the HI environmental logo. At the time of review, ten hostels hold the Green Hostel logo; Reykjavík, Grundarfjördur, Ytra Lón, Húsey, Seydisfjördur, Berunes, Laugarvatn, Ósar, Kópasker and Hvoll.
